Overview
OpenRouter is a unified API gateway that provides developers access to over 200 AI models through a single integration point. Instead of managing separate API keys and integrations for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Mistral, and dozens of other providers, OpenRouter consolidates everything behind one standardized API that follows the OpenAI chat completions format.
The platform handles routing, fallbacks, and load balancing automatically. If one provider is down or rate-limited, OpenRouter can route requests to alternative providers serving the same model. This makes it particularly valuable for production applications that need high reliability.
